Journeys in Visual Mathematics is a journey, guiding learners through experiences on the road of number sense development. The website was inspired by the work of Gene Maier, one of the founders of The Math Learning Center. More specifically, it was inspired by his early web presentation, “A Play on Numbers.” Like a lot of Gene’s work, this website’s purpose is to showcase the power of visual models in development of mathematical fluency and demonstrate that learning math can be a visual, meaningful, personal, and joyful experience. Our hope is the website will be a resource for teachers and parents and any others interested in the learning and teaching of mathematics.

Journeys in Visual Math is a project of The Maier Math Foundation. The foundation provides resources and research to promote and inspire mathematical exploration.
